Known as Hoodia Gordonii or “Hoodia” for short, and to some tribes in the Kalahari as “Xhoba” or “Ghaap”. Hoodia is a Succulent botanical which looks like a “cactus” and is part of the Genus: Trichocaulon and belongs to the Family Name: Asclepiadaceae.
Real South African Hoodia Gordonii is one of the rarest botanicals in the world. Today Hoodia Gordonii is artificially grown in China and in some parts of America, but those plants never reach the quality and effectiveness of  pure , authentic South African Hoodia. It is a cactus-like plant that looks similar to a cucumber and can reach up to a height of 1 meter. The plant thrives in extremely high temperatures in the high deserts of the Kalahari in South Africa and it takes between 3 or 4 years, before the plant is ripe for harvesting.
The historical use of Hoodia is expressed well by a spokesman for the San Bushmen when he said, “I learned to how to eat it from my forefathers. It is my food, my water and also a medicine for me. We San use the plant during hunting to fight off the pain of hunger and thirst.” It is a plant that has been very useful to these people to survive in a harsh environment and is safe to use, without any side-effects, which is proven by the use over generations from the San-People.
Hoodia Gordonii (http://www.hoodia-diet-shop.co.uk/static,isthoodiagleichhoodiaenglish,1.htm) fools your brain into believing you are full, although you have not eaten. Further more, it slows the emptying process of the stomach, contributing to a slow and steady release of proteins, carbohydrates and fats. A steady inflow of nutrients takes a lot of stress off the body which contributes to improved energy and a feeling of well being. All this is caused, by the active molecule P57, which was discovered in the 1930’ies. There are other “Hoodias”, but only the Hoodia Gordonii, grown and harvested in South Africa, contain this molecule.
Hoodia Gordonii (http://hoodia-diet-shop.com/) also contains a lot of hormonal substrates, pro-hormonal substances that the body can use to promote and regulate hormonal balance. These plant ingredients contribute to inner balance and calm. Some who use Hoodia regularly say they feel like they are on a mood elevator or anti-depressant. But there is no medical research or proof for these effects.
